Aleppo soap: the origin of modern soaps

Aleppo soap is much more than just a cleanser. Ecological and natural, it is free of dyes, synthetic fragrances, palm oil and preservatives. Its artisanal production begins with the saponification of olive and bay berry oils, before the paste is spread, cut into cubes, dabbed, then left to dry for at least 9 months.

Why 9 months of drying?

Unlike industrial soaps, Aleppo soap does not contain palm oil, a substance that accelerates the drying of soaps. Here, time becomes a precious ally, allowing the soap to mature slowly to develop all its beneficial virtues.

The beneficial properties of Aleppo soap

Aleppo soap is the result of the alliance of two noble oils: olive oil and bay leaf oil. Olive oil, with its strong emollient power, gently cleanses and nourishes the skin. Bay leaf oil, for its part, is a real treasure for sensitive skin thanks to its soothing, antiseptic and regenerating properties.

The market is full of soaps claiming to be from Aleppo, but they are not all equal. To be sure of acquiring an authentic Aleppo soap, here are some tips:

Check the ingredient list : make sure it only contains olive oil, bay berry oil, water and soda.
Choose organic stores : they are often more reliable regarding the origin of the products.
Look for the master soapmaker's seal : this stamp guarantees the authenticity and quality of the soap.
Observe its color : a traditional Aleppo soap has a yellow-brown color on the outside, a sign of its prolonged drying, while the inside reveals an emerald green, evidence of natural oils.

Choosing the ideal Aleppo soap for your skin

Depending on your needs and skin type, the percentage of bay berry oil is a key criterion. For daily use on oily or normal to combination skin, a soap with a low percentage of bay berry oil (such as Najel's pure olive, 5% or 12% HBL soaps) will be perfect.

For dry, sensitive or reactive skin, choose a soap with a higher percentage of laurel berry oil (30% or more). Tests carried out on Najel Aleppo soaps confirm their excellent skin tolerance:
